PURPOSE
The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with the teachings of the OT and to identify ourselves as Christians in the journey of God’s chosen people, the Israelites.
SPECIFIC GOALS
. Learn how to read, study and pray (with) the Bible within the Catholic Tradition
. Learn how to use Bible tools
. To become familiar with the themes of most of the 46 OT books
. To focus on the lives of the Patriarchs, prophets and kings of the Israelites
. To understand key Catholic quotes that provide the basis for teachings in the Church
. To understand key concepts within the religion of Judaism
TEXT
Each student is required to purchase the Catholic Youth Bible, NAB translation and “The Old Testament…Our Call to Faith and Justice.” It will be your responsibility to bring your Bible and textbook to class each day. DO NOT LOAN YOU BIBLE TO A FRIEND. In addition, you will be given photocopied worksheets and articles to supplement your Bible. YOU ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO PURCHASE A THREE RING BINDER W/ POCKETS. A Marker is also suggested to highlight specific passages from the Bible.
GRADING
Grading for this class will be based on a point system. The more demanding the assignment, the more value it will have. On average, assignments will be graded as follows:
Homework: 10-50 pts
Quiz: 25-100 pts
Semester Project: 200-250 pts
Test: 150 pts
Class Attitude: 50 pts
Your grade will be determined according to the breakdown found in your student handbook.
CLASS POLICIES
Absentees: If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed. Students will be given one extra day for each day she is absent. (NB. Students will NOT be allowed to make up a “pop”quiz if absent that day).
Late work: All late work will receive a maximum 50% score. Teacher will not accept any work that is more that 2 days late.
Food and drink: NO FOOD OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED IN CLASS (with the exception of bottled water).
Disruptive behavior: Any student disrupting class will be given teacher demerit. Any student who attempts to use cell phone, who does other class homework or wastes time rearranging her glamour photo shoot will have these items confiscated. THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING. If I find these things in my classroom, they become my property.
Right Attitude: As you know, we all start out on the same page. Remember that your effort and attitude mean everything in ALL of your classes. In order to succeed:
Participate, take notes, listen attentively, and most important, ALWAYS laugh at the teacher’s jokes. I am on campus every day before 7:00am. You can arrange to see me
